The working sets (heating quickly). Heavy compound lifts, intervals, or high-output circuits. Your skin temperature can climb 4 to 6 degrees in five minutes. Layering for the commute, not the workout
The mistake most people make with winter gym layering is layering for the gym floor temperature. The layering should be for the coldest phase of your day, which is almost always the commute, not the workout.
The practical approach:

Care that preserves winter pieces longer
Winter gym leggings live a harder life than summer pieces. More sweat in the colder air takes longer to wick off, the temperature range stresses elastane more than constant warm conditions, and winter gym attendance tends to be higher for most people than summer. The care rules matter.
Wash in cold water. Use an activewear-specific or delicates detergent. Skip the fabric softener (it coats the moisture-wicking fibres and reduces their function, plus it flattens the brushed interior). Never tumble dry. Line dry inside or under cover (UV from direct sun degrades elastane). Rotate two pairs minimum if you train more than twice a week, so each pair gets recovery time between wears.
